Best Things with Canadians

1. Road trip grub – Tim Hortons. Harvey's. Swiss Chalet. If you don't know these names, it's time to look beyond the Golden Arches. Nothing says gustatory bliss on the Trans-Canada Highway like a peameal & natural smoked Bacon Bacon burger, or half-chicken plate with Chalet sauce, or a box of Timbits with a double-double coffee. 2. Chocolate bars – "Canadian chocolate is higher in fat and it is a higher particle size," a Hershey's chocolate expert noted in the National Post, adding that Hershey's offers a separate recipe for the discriminating Canadian chocolate palate. That's why eating Canadian faves like Caramilk, Aero, Mr. Big, heck even Sweet Marie in Saskatoon, is a creamy, velvety experience. 3. Apologizing – "Oops sorry, was my face in the way of your fist?" A study titled "Sorry ... I'm Canadian," reports 90% of Canadians aged 18-25 apologize if a stranger bumps into them. Travelers s...

10 Things to Originate from Canada

10 Things Originate from Canada Canada Dry If you think there’s a better mass-market ginger ale, you’re wrong. Will Arnett “It’s the final countdown!” Poutine What’s not to love about this greasy, hot, smothered mass of French fries, gravy and cheese curds? (The Sycamore is currently dishing up a more refined version of the dish, fwiw.) The Band The Band-mates might’ve looked like off-duty Civil War re-enactors on the cover of their eponymous sophomore album, from 1969, but four of the group’s primary members, including Rick Danko, Garth Hudson, Richard Manuel and Robbie Robertson have roots in Canada. The lone holdout? Drummer and singer extraordinaire Levon Helm, who was born in Turkey Scratch, Arkansas. Peanut butter PB&J might be a lunchtime staple in elementary schools across the States, but the spread was actually patented by Montreal-based chemist Marcellus Edson in 1884. Neil Young ( The Monsanto Years excepted...

NFL Draft 2016 Winners & Losers

Winners and losers from Round 1 WINNERS Jacksonville: Jacksonville faced a potential dilemma at the No. 5 pick, especially after UCLA LB Myles Jack's slide. The Jaguars needed to address their defense, but not all of the top players on the board were fits for what Gus Bradley needed. And then the Dallas Cowboys selected Ezekiel Elliott at No. 4, clearing the way for Jacksonville to grab Florida State CB Jalen Ramsey. Arguably the draft's top overall player, Ramsey should add an immediate competitive boost to the Jaguars' secondary. Urban Meyer: Ohio State’s head coach saw five of his players (DE Joey Bosa, RB Ezekiel Elliott, CB Eli Apple, T Taylor Decker and LB Darron Lee) taken in the first 20 picks. The Buckeyes fell one player short of matching Miami's (Fla.) 12-year-old record of having six first-rounders in one draft. Still, Meyer could not have asked for a better recruiting plug. Tennessee Titans: Jon Robinson and ...

OceanOne robot exploring a shipwreck in the Mediterranean Sea.                         Not as good at fist-bumps as President Obama, but we're getting there. “OceanOne will be your avatar,”  said in a news release. “The intent here is to have a human diving virtually, to put the human out of harm’s way. Having a machine that has human characteristics that can project the human diver’s embodiment at depth is going to be amazing.” Check out a video of OceanOne in action below.
