There Is More To Skala Than Just Skala Beach

On the Ionian Island of Cephalonia, you will find the village of Skala. Despite having a population of less than a thousand people, it is quite the popular travel destination during the summer time in Greece.
Operating out of Skala the glass bottom boat runs hourly boat trips. Guided by captain Vangelis, the cruise goes to Mounda bay and the site of the Perseus submarine wreck. Your guide will also take you to the Kakava reef and tell you of the legend of the sunken village of Dulihion refered to by Homer. Tickets available from Skalina Tours in Skala.
Captain Vangelis offers Glass Bottom boat cruises out of Skala. BBQ, Ithaca and half day cruises.
If you have the time, take a cruise with Captain Vangeli’s Special Cruises. The cruise itself will take up most of your day, taking between seven and eight hours, but it is totally worth it. The cruise takes you around the island’s beautiful coastline, in and out of caves, and making stops in several coves and ports throughout the island. The crew is highly knowledgable and will give passengers all kinds of information — in English and in Greek —  on all of the locations that the cruise either stops at or passes by. Perhaps the most interesting part of the cruise is when you will stop by Navagio Beach, better known as Shipwreck Beach. While seeing the shipwreck is a popular attraction, you will be blown away at how blue the water is.

There are a couple of beaches that you’ll want to check out while visiting Skala. Skala Beach is a fantastic beach with its crystal clear water and clean sand, although some areas of the beach have pebbles instead of sand. The water itself is warm, and perfect for snorkeling.
Mounda (Kaminia Beach) is set between Skala and Katelios. This uncommercialised beach is very sandy and has shallow water which is great for children.
Your other beach option is Kaminia Beach, also known as Mounda Beach. This beach isn’t as popular as Skala Beach, because the water is really shallow and folks are unable to go snorkeling here. However, due to its shallow waters, it’s perfect for children. In addition to that, the water being so shallow would mean that it’s warmer than beaches with deeper water.
Akri Seaside Bar
The most popular bar in Skala is Akri Seaside Bar, which is a nice little bar that has an excellent view of the water. Come here for drinks, and watch the sunset in an extremely relaxed setting, while one of the best staffs on the island takes care of you. The drinks are cheap, the music is great and the people are even greater.
Dolphin Water Sports Club
For a fun day out on the water, you’re going to want to look up Dolphin Ski Club. It doesn’t matter how old you are or what your experience level is; there is something here for everyone. With the Dolphin Ski Club, you and your group can partake in para sailing, water skiing, jet skiing, fishing trips, snorkeling, boat hire, canoe rental, and even go on a private excursion. The Dolphin Ski Club also offers lessons for beginners looking to try something new. The best part is that all of their services are at affordable prices, and the service is excellent. If you prefer to explore by land — which is completely understandable — you should check out Makis Scooter Rental. Scooters are great for getting around the island quicker, and this service is top notch with the best prices around.
Suppose you want to see some of the amazing scenery around Skala, but riding a scooter isn’t for you — give Kefalonia Horseriding Stable a try! This stable has plenty of wonderfully trained horses, and their horses are ready for riders of any level of experience.
