Old Age Ain't No Place For Sissies

Here's Something that we'll all do today, regardless of our social status, ethnic background, or political party. We'll get older. Sure, some people handle it better than others, but it happens to all of us.

We all watch our skin migrating south like a flock of eager geese, our hairs fading to pale imitations of what they once were, our joints creaking like rocking chairs.
That's just life.

Aging, though, has its benefits.Wisdom comes with age (if we can remember what we are talking about).

We become role models for the younger generations (if they can see past our uncool clothes).

We become respected, admired members of society. (Or at least we've been around long enough to avoid obsessing about what society thinks.)

This article is a celebration of the inevitable - and a tribute to bold souls who refuse to take growing older lying down. (sitting down works just as well.) So pull up a recliner, grab the bifocals, and enjoy a fresh look at an "old" topic. - Bette Davis

I never look back...I'm not going that way. - Ginnie Job

BEAUTY comes in all ages, colors, shapes, and forms. God never makes junk. - Kathy Ireland

Too many people grow up. That's the real trouble with the world..
They don't REMEMBER what it's like to be twelve years old.
- Walt Disney

One should never trust a woman WHO TELLS one her real age.
A woman who would tell that would tell anything. - Oscar Wilde

Joc-O-Sot/Walking Bear (1810-1844) gravestone Joc-O-Sot was of the band Bear, tribe Osauckee of the Algonquin nation, according to the memorial marker, but was he a Sauk? Perhaps a Sauk is of the Osauckee. But was he the chief of the Meskwaki/Fox tribe? The Sauks and Meskwaki were closely allied and fought together in the Black Hawk War of 1831/1832, where Joc-O-Sot was wounded. After the war he came to Cleveland, working as a fishing and hunting guide. He later toured with a theatrical troupe run by Dan Marble, which supposedly showed Native American life. Traveling in England, he performed for Queen Victoria, who was impressed enough to commission a portrait of him. Joc-O-Sot became ill and returned to the United States, apparently wanting to return to his homeland (he was born in Iowa, but his people may have been buried in Wisconsin of Minnesota). He made it to Cleveland before he died, and was buried in the Erie Street Cemetery. It is reported that vandals da...
